About KilowattCalc
KilowattCalc answers a single, very common question: how much does it cost to run an electric appliance? How much does it cost to run any appliance? US electricity prices and running-cost calculators.
What we do
We publish a free running-cost calculator for any appliance, the average residential electricity price for all 51 US states and DC (currently a US average of 18.56¢/kWh, March 2026), and pages for 36 common household appliances showing their typical wattage and what they cost to run.
How we work
Every figure comes from a real, openly-licensed source — the EIA for electricity prices and the U.S. Department of Energy and ENERGY STAR for appliance wattages — and every cost is a transparent calculation using the DOE formula. We show our sources and the date on every data page. See the methodology for the exact formula and the limits of these estimates.
Independence
KilowattCalc is an independent site. We do not sell electricity, appliances or energy plans. The figures are estimates for general information, not professional energy or financial advice — always verify against your own bill and appliance label.
